I have a client who's decided he would like to 'copycat' the effect used on the peterdawson text from this site:

http://www.peterdawson.net/

The fade out is just a bit of masking, but how would one go about the fade in effect with the letters curling into place? If you're not sure what I mean, refresh the page a few times to reply the intro.

Thanks in advance.

its a very nice site!
I think its done by fading in as your have said, and masking parts of the letters whilst its fading in.

The text? Thats done by Motion tween.

Type the text out and convert to symbol. (button, Graphic and Movie Clip.)
Sellect the keyframe that you would like to fade in/out (after Create motion tween and convert to symbol) and to fade in sellect color/ALPHA under properties and increase/decrease to +100 or negative 100 depending on weather you want to fade in or out.

(if it's text you do not have to convert to symbol.) if you do not see the color option (under Properties) unsellect the text then resellect it.

That was a way to fade in/out the whole text but if you want to fade in each letter make a layer for each letter and do the same thing.

Hmmm ... nice effect.

To get that kind of effect I would do the following thing:

- create the text that I want;
- make it a graphic;
- create a new movie clip - have two layers;
- on the layer from the bottom put the text that I have;
- create a mask above the layer where I have the text - V shape turned - like an arrow that points to the right;
- make the Alpha of the text 0%;
- while I tween the mask from left to right to reveal the text, I also change the Alpha of the text - in such a way that when the text is completely revealed, the Alpha of the text will be 100%
