I want to have a gallery of pictures, so far I have a window pop up (actually another movie loaded as child) and I want to have the user be able to click buttons to load images in this area. What is the best way to do this?
- Should I have all the images on the same movie as the window (meaning one large swf and lots of load time)
- Should I put each image into a separate movie (This sounds stupid to me, but it was previously suggested)
- Is it possible to load gifs, jpegs, or other image types directly into flash?
I don't want the user to have to wait for all the images to load, I want the images to load as the user clicks on them. thanks in advanced.

You have all the components for your answer in your question. At some point all the data has to load - It is your choice as to whether you make your user wait for all of them to load or pull them in on demand.

The advantage of pulling them all in at once is that they are then all available imediately with little or no wait time. The disadvantage is obviously that there is a longer load time.

The advantage of pulling them all in on demand (one at a time) may sound stupid but you can same a lot of bandwidth as the user only has to download the images he/she wants. The disadvantage I guess is that you have to set up some swfs to load in.

Flash MX apparently will make it easy to import images on the fly - until then the decision is all yours,

Rupert
