I've just installed the latest Windows XP security updates and now find that whenever I run the mouse over any flash file that contains nav or button action, I get an alert telling me to click on the file to activate it, before anything will work.

The updates are KB911562, KB911567, KB912812 and KB908531. I don't know which one is the particular cause, so I removed them all to eliminate the problem.

This is a disaster for any site that uses flash navigation.menus etc. Has anyone else got the same thing? More importantly, does anyone know how to fix this?

Whoa...have just seen post by Beau..Thanks for the info guys.
Cheers

I've had trouble with these scripts and plug-in version detection. I worked on solving that issue today and came up with a simple solution: http://www.cdotspace.com/flashNotes/ie/index.html Please let me know what you think about this.

The http://blog.deconcept.com/flashobject/ solution worked great for me, and seems much easier than what you came up with...

cmbarsotti..thanks, but I have to agree with oldnewbie. I have tried both the MM/Adobe and the deconcept scripts. Both seem to be easier.

I have to agree with oldnewbie...the deconcept alternative is quick, easy to use, and so far flawless for me with little work. You'd have to be crazy not to use it.

I thought I tested the method at http://blog.deconcept.com/flashobject/ and had trouble customizing the "please update..." message when the user had an old plugin. Maybe I'm wrong. I've actually stopped using the method I suggest above and started using the Adobe (formerly Macromedia) Flash Active Content Update extension from the Macromedia Flash Exchange website.

Great quick and easy fix, but, not if you have embedded dynamic text, it screws it up.
