Audio Query

Hi all. My query is that i need to create a sound button which by-pressing mutes the sound.
I know how to stop the sound and again play it. But on fancy sites people are using "Mute" as a Stop button.

Now at the bottom right you will see sound button and a tiny equalizer as well. I would like know i can do it.
Samples will be well-appreciated.
