Hey, you know when you go to define the movie properties? Well i want a background color that isn't hex standard.. ie you don't just click the little squares on the color chart, i was wondering how to get around that... thx

Use the color mixer panel to create a new color then use the little menu on the top RHS of that panel to "Add Swatch". It will then appear in your movie Settings and be available as a BG color.

Hi! It's quite easy really so don't worry :0)

You just need to open your colour palette (windows - panels- mixer OR click the palette icon on the bottom right of the Flash work area window)

Select the colour you are after

Select "Add Swatch" from the drop down menu on the palette (the arrow on the top right of the panel)

Go to Modify - Movie - Background colour and hey presto your new colour swatch should be included at the bottom of the original colour swatches :0)

enjoy

Don't you hate that!

I've had so much coffee this morning the fingers are a blur as they fly (totally inaccurately) across the keyboard, I'm gritting my teeth and I keep feeling the skin on the back of my neck crawl...

I have got to cut down. Herbal tea for the rest of the day!!

sortof on the topic....is it generally viewed as acceptable to use non websafe colours?? or does nobody really care and websafe colours will eventually end up in a pile with push technology and browser wars??

I don't personally tend to stick to them and it seems the only people who get really ugly results are those running their monitors at 256/Low colour levels.

As for what is generally accepted - you'll need to get a bit more of a response from everyone else here!

Cheers,
Rupert

well, seeing as websafe colours are generally the most disgusting combinations I don't stick to them either, I used to try but they do tend to suck! :) I suppose I do try to use them if the area in question is going to be quite large and flat, but even so, it depends what sort of a mood I'm in :)

As to whether everyone else uses them as standard, I don't know. *shrug*

YES!
but it's worse when you post, get ignored, and then the next person says the same and gets a thank you! (not that I'm bitter about a past thread or anything :))

enjoy your herbal tea Rup! most healthy of you :)

web monkey has a great article on websafe colors...

if you want to stick to them... with teh many various browsers/versions out there, you are now down to about 22 websafe colors.

diversity is great.
