placing objects on timeline

i know this sounds dumb, but i was reading a scrolling text box tutorial and it says:

Finally, place your text box and your two buttons on the main timeline, select everything, and press F8 to convert to a movie clip.
---
How do you place things on the timeline?

Open the library (Windows > Library... or Ctrl L - might have to hit that a few times, it doens't work first time always) then drag and drop.
