Well like the title says, im making a site to sell stuff. I'll be selling knives and the like, irrelevant. My question is, can i have a goup of items and set attributes to it like a class, like military or kitchen, brand and price? Furthermore when i do select military or kitchen or a particular brand or price range, select those that apply and list them? Additionaly, if one seleced to buy an item, could something like a stock number or something be strored somewhere for the checkout. I plan to have the stored items to be taken out and put in a new ie checkout window thing. First post so i apologize if its in the wrong spot. By the way im using Flash MX 2004.

Hi and welcome to ActionScript.org,

Since you're dealing with a shop, selling whatever it is, I'll think your first step should be how you are going to store all this information? Meaning, how is your database going to be designed...? Afterall, what you see on the screen is just a representation of what is stored in your database, be it displayed to the user using Flash, HTML of whatever doesn't realy matter.

Keebler,
Welcome.
Like pan69 said, do you know how you are storing the information, (i suggest MySQL) once you know how you will store it you only need to filter it.
I suggest hire-ing someone that knows what they are doing.

no no no
im talking about 'inside' the flash scene.
like www.budk.com (http://www.budk.com) except totaly made in flash not html. the person choses what he wants to buy 'inside' the flash scene. i want to make a list of the items, set them thier attributes or whatever then using the script form those requested items line up in a list that the buyer can see.

may not help, but this (http://www.geocities.com/kamandriat/index.html) is what it looks like so far, when browse>all is selected, all ive done so far, the list thats in their i want the script to do
like if i selected military, then everything thats has military would be made into a list same with the price or brand or whatever it may be.

once the person has filled thier cart, a new window will be opened up, in html, but taking with it the item numbers stored inside of the flash scene

does any of this make absolutely any sense?

:(

I guess it makes perfectly good sense. The question was if you had your infrastucture in place? What these type of sites drive is not HTML or Flash but a good database. Now, do you just want to play around and create just a user interface that looks like a sjop but in reallity isn't then I suggest you'll have a look at the tutorial section of this site.

Basically, and excuse me pan69 if I'm intruding....what they are trying to explain is that though the store is presented inside Flash...the information that Flash uses to make that store, must be saved in a database somewhere. Stores are meant to be dynamic, not static. Just like a store presented in HTML, it uses a database. The logic is the same as an HTML one, but just in Flash..

I apologize if I sound like I'm talking down to you, I'm trying to simplify it so that there is no confusion...
