What is it that causes the Flash authoring tool to behave so sluggishly at times???

I can't figure it out... it gets into a "funk" and sometimes it'll take up to 1min+ for it to even respond! Typically every action after that take the same time... Just opening a folder in the library takes the same time!

Sometimes restarting helps - sometimes it doesn't?? What is the DEAL with this buggy behavior??

I have had no problems so far. What plarform are you using, Windows or Mac?

Windows...

I don't have INCREDIBLE specs, but nothing too horrible...

PentiumM 1.5Ghz 512MB, 1000+MB Virtual Memory
WinXPSP2

In fact Flash runs fine NORMALLY ... the times that it slows way down don't seem to have any rhyme or reason... I can't figure out what it's trying to do.

That has happened to me as well...

Incredibly annoying...

It happens to me as well from time to time, especially when I am working on an elaborate animation. Or anytime I open the Movie Explorer window, everything slows way down. If I'm working on an elaborate animation AND open the Movie Explorer window, the computer freezes nearly as badly as all those girls back in high school whenever I came too close.

I think Flash has always (in Windows at least) been a memory hog, where it eats up large chunks of memory and then doesn't release the whole block when the file closes. Even if I allocate certain memory to Flash. It's rare that I can get through an entire day of using Flash without needing at least one reboot.

No one has any ideas about this?

Maybe it's a problem with physical memory? I could buy more... or maybe it could be solved by increasing the page file?

Why don't you report it to Macromedia, oeps! Adobe...

Well, I could, but I figured it's just my machine...

I've re-installed windows just to help speed things up...I'll see if that helps, but I was thinking maybe it's time for a hardware upgrade.

The problem is I don't know what would help the most.... more RAM, better processor... or something else altogether...

Any ideas?

Well, the thing is every body thinks this way then it will never be fixed because no one is reporting it. Maybe you are that 1000th user reporting it that makes them take action.

Fill out this one, then you've atleast done everything you could: http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/mmform/index.cfm?name=wishform

 I sorta have the same problem. When I was on Windows XP, it would get sluggish for a few seconds, then clear up, but now that I'm on the Vista Beta, Windows Vista says it's a problem and has to close the whole thing.

Well, to update I just bought 1GB of RAM, bringing my total to 1.5GB... I'm seeing a MAJOR performance improvement. It doesn't "lag" anymore...

It still takes awhile to open my larger .fla's but at least I can zip along when WORKING. I use Photoshop and a bunch of other programs alot as well so this should be a major improvement...

I guess I'm starting to see how important RAM is in these graphical applications... the processor/chipset figures in, but the RAM seems to easily be the weakest link, especially with Flash which is apparently a memory hog.
