Hey folks
I have just uploaded the new version of my site (www.weirdcroydon.co.uk (http://www.weirdcroydon.co.uk/)).
It runs fine in Firefox, but it the site is running in Internet Explorer and I close the window without going to a different page, I get the following error:
---------------------------
iexplore.exe - Application Error
---------------------------
The instruction at "0x10005f6c" referenced memory at "0x10005f6c". The memory could not be "read".
Does anyone know what this means?

I think I may have found the cause of this... the XML file contains a "£" character or three... I've changed this to "£".
I'll upload the file tonight and see if the error still occurs.

For me (Safari on Powerbook G4) there was a huge pause before the preloader started...
I have to say the design isn't up my street, and I thought it seemed odd to use these sort of 'spacey' graphics on a site about supernatural stuff in Croydon...Surely you'd do something darker and bit more sinister?
Congrats on being a new dad.
Yea, even on PC there was that pause. I think from a graphics stand point you need some more shadow work...on the Flash side, there is a lot of lag when things begin to load.

Thanks guys. The points you made on the graphics have been made to me by other people too, I will work on that.
As for the lag, I haven't noticed that on any of the computers I've tested the site on (home, work, a couple of friends' etc). Not sure what would be causing that :(

Are you using any attachMovie() commands with the movies set to 'export in first frame' ? I've had issues with this in the past, basically if you have movieclips that are due to be attached later in the movie, they are exported or loaded in the first frame, but they aren't accounted for in getBytesTotal/Loaded for your preloader. So they load up, and then your preloader starts.

OK, I took your comments and went away, now I'm back with this (http://www.strangeplace.org/croydon/coyn7.html). I've changed the graphics to look a little more relevant to the content, and hopefully made the whole thing a little better.
Please have a look at let me know what you think before I finally go live properly.
:D

Looks good to me, site seemed to load pretty quick and the page transitions were simple. The only thing that bothered me was the site didnt fit my browser window. You may want to consider shrinking it slightly so it fits well on a 1024x768 window, or figuring out how to size the flash dynamically.

how to size the flash dynamically.
I didn't even know that could be done!?
Good point about the monitor size, I forget sometimes - I've used 1164z768 or above for a looong time now! :)
Should always target 1024x768...they are the main steam users at the moment.

No worries, most of us designers forget that at some point in time. 1024x768 is like 80% of internet users out there now (thank god its not 800x600 anymore)...so that should be the target. And its a good time to note, the actual browser window size is less than 1024..depending on browser. Check this link out:

Hey, it's looking much much nicer than the last incarnation I saw- much more suited to the subject. Good content as well, I love ghost stories.
