default maximum # of characters in a textfield

I have looked in several places, I was wondering if anyone could tell me the default max number of characters that can be put in to one textfield, if there is even a limit at all.

no limit by default that I know of.

Flash Gordon is right. No default limit.

There are ways to limit it though, if that's what you're looking to do.
