View Full Version : Jagged edge with transparent gif's..
Hi there, I was just wondering if there was any way to get rid off that ugly jagged edge I get when I'm use gif's with transparancy in flash?
I've tried compressing with png-8 too, but same problem there.
cheers.

Have you tried the following on the first frame...
Code removed.
jupp, tried that, doesn't work. Don't think the problem is with the quality off the flash file, check the link for an quick example: Link. (http://ekstra.htg.no/folkebladet/annonse/forslag/Untitled-3.html)

You'll probably need to save the file as a PNG-24. You can do this in Photoshop in the Save for Web option.
Unfortunately, the transparency settings for GIFs and PNG-8 only allow 100% transparency, or none at all. They don't recognize anything in between. So when you import a GIF or PNG-8, it alters the pixels that had an alpha level below 100% with a white bacground, giving it a jagged edge.
However, if you do have to use a GIF or PNG-8, then you need to create a background layer directly behind your image. You'd want the background layer to be the same color as your stage, (In this case, blue) and then delete or crop out the portion of the image that won't be used.
Still, PNG-24 is your best option if you want your image to maintain the varied alpha levels on the edge of the image that give the edge it's smooth/gradiated appearance.
Make sense?
I hoped this helped.
png-24 works perfect! thanks. :)
