Pasting Library Symbols: Replace Prompt?

It seems like Flash, when copying symbols from one movie to the other (say two different versions of the same file) does not prompt you asking if you want to replace existing symbols or not if the symbols are exactly the same. Can someone verify/debunk this myth?

Why is it that sometimes the prompt appears, and sometimes it doesn't?

if the movieclip symbol names are exactly the same it should prompt you. but if you have clipA in a folder in your library and try to copy clipA from another file into your current file, it wont prompt you because they will not be residing in the same place in your library. so, basically as long as they are nested in different folder levels in your library it shouldnt conflict. maybe that is why you are not getting the prompt??
