I think I'm going crazy. I'm working on a project in Flash 8 that has several pieces. Each file has a video (FLV file) that has to be embedded and published to Flash 7. Everything was going along smoothly, but occasionally, on publishing my swf I would get an error: "VP6 Codec requires Flash Player 8 or higher." For a while, I could just start over, open a new file, embed the video and it would work. But today nothing I do is working. I get this error every time. Even if I import an FLV file that worked yesterday, today I get an error when I publish the swf.

So far as I know, when you embed a video, you don't have a choice of codec, so I don't see how I can change this. Has anyone seen this problem? Any ideas of what I might be doing wrong or how I can get around it?

It's there. Click "Show Advanced," and you'll have the choice between VP6 and Sorenson Spark.

Sorry for being an idiot, but I don't see any "Show Advanced". Should this be on the menus that I get when I import the video? I've seen advanced settings when I embed video that is in AVI format, but these are FLV files.

Ah. Well there's your problem. Where are you getting these?

They are being supplied to me by my client. The strange thing is that I was able to embed an FLV file yesterday. But today, if I try to embed the same file, it doesn't work -- I get the codec error. I can't think of anything I'm doing differently. I've even tried taking one of the Flash files that was working, deleting the FLV file and then reimporting it and I get the error.

Right. The FLVs are obviously Flash 8 (VP6). You'll have to ask your client to re-encode them for MX compatibility.
