I'm having a serious issue with Flash MX professional 2004. When I try to publish my project it is either crashing, or just 'stops' - the publishing dialog box disappears, but it failed to publish.

I've tried publishing it on two different computers and re-installing flash, with no success.

Here's the specifics:

- The project is basically a movie clip with buttons which call other movie clips.

- The "called" movie clips are complex and contain a lot of audio. They are large, mostly due to the audio file sizes (wave files). Note that this Flash project is intended to be deployed on CD, not streamed.

- When I was building and making changes to the "called" movie clips, it also had the same problem publishing, but I was able to (finally) get Flash to publish (after many crashes and errors). So all the called movie clips are good.

- The movie clip that calls the others is pretty simple: 12 buttons that make the requested one visible and makes the other ones invisible. All the "called" movie clips are placed directly into the frame on the score - I am not using a MovieClip object (yet).

- Clicking a button calls gotoAndPlay(frame of the movie clip to play).

- When publishing, the CPU is 100 maxed out for 20-30 minutes. Memory usage is about 700 MBs. The computers have 1 GB of memory so that leaves about 300 MB of RAM.

I don't know why it is crashing. Other simple Flash projects publish fine. I don't see any logs in the Flash directory - is there one?

The Publish settings are just for a .swf file so far, but I'll eventually need to create a projector also.

Any ideas what to do??? I'm running out of time fast! My deadline is approachng, and Flash keeps choking.

I still have very little idea why it does this, but using the Save and Compact menu function seems to make it occur less often. So I was able to finally get it to render the animation. Took all weekend to get it right :(
