View Full Version : Flex 2 page and Flash Player 9 upgrade

09-14-2006, 02:08 PM

Flex 2 applications needs Flash Player 9 to display page. I had Flash Player 8 installed, and I visited a couple of pages made in Flex 2. I read, that a good thing about Flex 2 application is less effort for user, to install Flash Player 9. All i got in my Firefox browser was a page with some fancy background with no content on it, no errors, no messages, nothing. Just blank page sitting and waiting there. I would expect some pop up or something to notify me, that i need to upgrade to flash player 9. Is a "bug" like this common if you have Flash player 8 installed?

Not likely, the author of the content you visited probably didn't compile with the ExpressInstall option. Copying SWFs from the bin directory, then embedding them in a HTML page would have this effect.

It's all about testing and attention to detail. Something that costs time (and money).

Great! Can you direct me to a page that was compiled with this option, so i can test this? I would really like to see this thing work before i go for it...

The express install for 9 has been put on hold until a security release has been made available.

Right you are [holds hands up], SWFObject it is.

Wasn't someone on the Web Stanadards site having a rant about the use of SWFObject the other week, citing it wasn't 'standard'?
