Hi all,
I'm having trouble getting a PNG image that I've imported to the library to be used as a UI Button Component icon.
I have set the "icon" property of the Button to the name of the PNG image, but it won't show either when editing the fla (which I'm sure is correct), or in the published swf (where the button is visible, but has no image).
Any help muchly apprieciated :)

You say you've imported it into the library, but did you save it as a object in your library?

Save as an object? That sounds hopeful.
No I've not done that, how do I save it?

move the image onto the workspace and then use Insert->Convert to Symbol. Then save as the appropriate symbol type (Movie Clip, Button, Graphic). Once it is saved in the Library as such then you can manipulate it in Flash.
BTW, may I ask why you're using a PNG...I would think this uncompressed format would cause it to drive up your overall file size.

Hi,
Yes, that's sorted it. Working perfectly now. TYVM!
I'm using a PNG as it's a 555 byte image, which is 1204 bytes as a GIF.
Many thanks,

PNG is not an uncompressed format; it is, however, a lossless format. Big difference.

I apologize for mis-speaking...but the point remains same that it can often drive up file size. Agree?

Agreed, it will increase you SWF file size, but when folks don't want to load their graphic assets dynamically (with loadMovie or MovieClipLoader), there isn't really much they can do about that, whether the file is GIF, PNG, or JPG....they will all increase the file size if embedded in the movie. ;)
