Hey Everyone,

I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem. I'm on a G5 PowerPC, and Quicktime just updated itself to 7.1.3. Here's the fun part:

It turns out that this update disables flash sound playback in Quicktime by default.

Well, i used the workaround, went to system preferences > quicktime > advanced and checked the "enable flash" checkbox. This may fix the problem for developers playing flash flv's or swf's in the quicktime player, but my problem is much more serious.

I'm not getting sound playback in Flash Player (version 8) or even in the Flash 8 environment since the update!

Has anyone else encountered this problem, or has anyone seen a fix floating around?

This is a crazy fix, but it works!

There are two ways to fix your G5 or intel mac if the QuickTime install has disabled sound output from the flash player.

1) Open GarageBand (if you have it) and create a new project. Press a few keys on the keyboard and then exit GarageBand. You may have to restart, but now sound will work from the flash player!

2) The application "Audio Midi Setup", found in /applications/utilities/ can be used to re-set the audio system to the default: 16 bits and 44.1 kHz sample rate. This may also require a restart.
