No way to protect it. Only some utilities to make it more of a pain in the tush to decipher your script:

ActionScript Obfuscator (http://www.genable.com/aso.html)

Another way to place an obstacle in the path of a thief is to use a loader SWF as a shell, which loads external SWFs. That way the SWF that shows up in the browser is not the one with all your fancy code and objects. A real thief will pretty easily figure out where to find the rest, but the amateurs will be a bit more deterred.

The real answer is forget about it. In this line of work, the only protection against theft is the ethical standards of whoever might want to grab your stuff.

Here are a few words of wisdom to consider:

"Bad artists borrow. Real artists steal." (Pablo Picasso)

"Don't worry about people stealing your ideas. If your ideas are any good, you'll have to ram them down people's throats." (Howard Aiken, so-called "father of the computer age")
