Hi,

I've been asked to create a DVD-Rom that would contain a simple multimedia presentation made up of pictures, text and video. I'm thinking of using flash for it and creating 2 versions of a standalone flash file, one for pc and one for mac.

The Multimedia presentation should ideally launch automatically when the DVD-Rom is put into the computer's drive. The DVD-Rom will also contain a large amount of other files like Word files, Excel Files and PDFs. These files need to be launched from within Flash. So for example a user might click on a button within Flash that would cause Microsoft Word to open on the computer and display a Word file.

Are there any potential technical problems I should be aware of in relation to Automatically launching standalone flash files on the MAc and PC, and launching other applications from within Flash? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

jjbilly

You should search these forums for 'projector', 'northcode', 'jester', and 'wrapper'. You are going to need (if I understand you right) to use a third party tool to put your flash into an exe, if you want file-system access. On the other hand, you could launch some files, like your example of Word, through, a browser, if you were happy to work in there.

What is the disadvantage of using "windows projector" or "macintosh project" in the publish setting dialogue box?

With regards to launching external files are you saying I would need to open a browser window from within Flash that would have a link to the required file?
