Gezzz.....Where is all the freelance work lately? A while back I was doing pretty well. And now, things are looking very dim?
In music, January & February are very slow months. Is it like this with Flash: are we in slow months?
Anybody need a freelancer? :D
Cheers!
:)
Generally, its my experience that as we get closer to the holidays many companies slow down and do a lot of planning for after the holidays.

I always ask you a question and then post the same thing here. You're probably thinking, "Damn rookie. How many times must I tell that stupid kid....."
:p
I was just wondering some other people's take on it as well. :o
Nah...but my answers might help those others that wonder the same thing..

Sometimes with holidays and such it's a wonder anyone gets anything done eh? LOL When I "lost" my job a few months back it was the start of summer so that was kind of not a good time. And now it's heading on "the holidays". Luckily had some startup people and contacts and such that said "Hey ya wanna do this?" So a bit of money flowing in.
So I guess in one way I'm agreeing with Cota, and in another way I'm commiserating with Flash and hopefully things will pick up that's all we can hope for in the cyclical nature of things.

It always helps if you are talented in multiple areas... Flash alone is not going to get us much jobs, but if you know more languages such as PHP or CSS, it is somewhat easier to get a job even if it is rainy season... That's one of the fields that I am quite lacking of...

I am not trying to sound facecous, but why freelance? Jobs do have flexible hours and varied work.
Anyway, if i were you, i would ask my self the question "is the time of year conducive for recruitment?"
How many recruitment companies do you know have a busy period nearing Christmas? - Hardly any, because most people change their jobs just after summer/autumn, and a lot of companies change their focus around the same time.
Regards, snapple
Flexible hours, not in the states....damn corporate slave drivers. Cyanblue is right about having multiple talents. Last year when the Flash work slowed down I spent most of my time doing photoshop work...thus my flash skillset suffered, but its like "riding a bike"....When Flash, graphics, and web work in general slows down, I revert back to my software development days.

I am a full-time student working on my Doctorate degree. I don't know too many companies that are that flexible. :p
I just spent the last 2 hours proctoring an exam......
I'll take contract work too, or anything that doesn't require me to be at a desk 5 days a week at specific hours.

I've been struggling with freelance myself over the past few years. The stress that comes from worrying about where jobs will come from can be a real downer sometimes. Personally, I'd like to see what a salary job would be like developing in Flash. However, I always worry that if some big company picked me up, I'd get bored always working in their color scheme.
My dream job: I open up Photoshop and pump out designs for other people to develop. I'm always happiest before I sit down to code. Being capable of good script and being willing to write it all are two completely different things.
P.S. - I'm moving to Washington state in a few months. As F.G. said, "Anybody need a freelancer?"
