I made this game (well started making it) and I think I want be able to optimize it for speed more than I did, so if you could check it out and tell me is it ok (since it's only get slower when I animate sprites and stuff). There isn't a preloader or anything but it's only ~ 50 k
car race (http://www.zorin-dom.hr/utrka.swf)
bydway: controls are arrows + shift (plyr1) and wasd + q (plyr2), blue circle is turbo, white is health.

kreso2,
Works fine for me ! Everything was up and running within 4 seconds, motion and steering were smooth, i apreciate the fact that you have not actually finsihed the game, so i will not comment on the actual intro/buttons/usability/game play etc !
I liked it and it was certainly a lot smoother than a lot of games out there.
Sorry for the rather limited feedback, on a freinds puter and in a real hurry.
Sorry again
Hope it was of some use.

Usually, when you talk of less than 50k, you don't need a prelaoder... :)

yes, I suppose so, but it is only the skeleton, final game will be much bigger (when I put all the cars, sprites, animation effects etc.) so I think a preloader will be required, anyway to take you into the game. What about your feedback, did it work OK, no glitches and slow frames?
thanks,

No slow frames. Your bandwidth profiler will give you the tough frames later on when the volume of your game increases... :) Post back by then, please! :)

Link didn't work for me...

yeah, looks like you are not the only one:
I have changed the server.
the link is http://www.zorin-dom.hr/utrka.swf, then right click 'play'. I have added the 'choose your car' menu, but only the first one can be coloured (since I did'nt want glass and lights to be shaded as well) - for now.
thanks

Pretty good there! Needs some tweaking, but hot damn! WHare are all my Hot Wheels now?

Looking good! Congrats: it's coming together nicely.
Try using raster graphics for the cars during the race. A lot of that vector detailing is lost because of size and just slows flash down. Not anything noticable at this point, but every little bit counts when making games. (I usually export the graphic from flash as a .png)
Also, whenever I touch a wall, even if I'm not moving, my damage goes up. Maybe have damage increase by the velocity of the car? Just a thought...
Looks really good!

Kreso, flashing along well there.
The colours you can choose for the car don't really match the colour the car turns do they?! Especially the orange and yellow, in fact are they the wrong way around? The yellow looks slightly more orangey to me, and vice versa.

Momentus, I used raster image for the last car (with all stats full). I tryed a car with gradients (1st), with no gradients (just fill - 2nd) and raster (3rd, the one with all stats full), but I thought about it and can't really deside why would one be better than other, I only concluded that the car with no gradients is better than the one with them (renders faster), as for the damage, it will be pretty much as you said.
As for the colors, pinkaboo, they are only there to color, nothing else, I didn't try hard to make them similar. In the final idea is to make them more 'realistic', more darker, so thanks anyway.
...so if I would be free to shoot a question (or two), what is tweaking? and second about cars coliding: if you played together with somebody and you colided you can see the hit thing is solved pretty bad, so I thought: maybe the first 'if' would be if the cars hitTest is true, and then place about 10-15 very small movies along the border of one car and than hitTest all of it's _xs and _ys with the other car, anyway
if (you_have_better_ideas) {please_talk();} else {thanks_anyway();}
again, thanks for the feedback guys and gals , you have been very helpfull.

I have been trying to figure out what tweaking is (so I can fix it) but haven't been lucky...maybe you could explain?
thanks,

Tweaking: Just the details. Graphics on the track..minor changes to things. Fine tuning. All that good stuff that comes at the end.
tweak (http://www.dictionary.com/search?q=tweak). see entries 5/6.
Leaned a new word today: frobnicate (http://www.dictionary.com/search?q=frobnicate)

kreso2: beter and better... :)
red penguin: The phonetical written form of the word you've found ("/frob'ni-kayt/") does not indicate any relationship towards "tweaking", but -Hey! If they say so... :)

frob'ni-kayt/ (Possibly from frobnitz, and usually abbreviated to frob, but "frobnicate" is recognised as the official full form). To manipulate or adjust, to tweak.
Huh?

here it is, little improved again - if you would be so kind and check for performance. And, if you could damage your self (so you start spilling oil) maybe then the game will be slower. I don't know why but on my comp the game runs smoothly, sometimes horrobly bad (only IE is turned on)...any comments appriciated!
