hello, I have Flash MX 2004, and I want to do some video. Do I need Flash 8 to do it right? Or, can I get by with MX?
thanks

You sure can do everything in Flash MX 2004 if you can deal with its built-in component or if you can build your own control... The main reason why I used F8 to handle the FLV was to use FLVPlayback component because I was too lazy to build one myself... So, go figure... ;)

Another good reason to use flash 8 is so you can publish for the flash 8 player and then encode your videos for flash 8. the On2 VP6 video codec (flash8) is way better that the old Sorenson Spark codec(flash 7).
VP6 absolutely rocks Spark for low datarate video, but yeah, plenty of people still prefer to write (or borrow/adapt) their own player code which doesn't change between flash 7 and 8.
