Revolving Headlines from Database

I work for a company that makes websites for baseball teams. A lot of our teams want to have a rotating headlines like you see on almost every website that has news or ads on them. We are trying to figure out how to use this with our current structure. Basically allowing the top 5 or 6 stories to be shown on the page.

I was wondering if anyone out there new where I could find a tutorial or example of the script that I could use to help get me started.

Let me clarify this.

Basically we want something like the rotating story headlines found on these sites:

http://www.espn.com/
http://www.newyorkpost.com/

or the ads on these sites:

http://www.radioshack.com/
http://www.bestbuy.com/
