View Full Version : on streaming sound
hello all:
hoping this is appropriate forum:
does anyone know if it's a problem to load streaming sound on a shared virtual server for a site that has light to moderate traffic?
I don't want to have to get a dedicated server if I don't need to, but I notice that the server is having trouble retrieving data from time to time.
Thanks!

Howdy and Welcome... :)
When you say 'streaming', do you really mean streaming an audio??? Does your shared virtual server has streaming server installed(like Flash Media Server for example)??? Or do you just mean progressive download???
It will be different based on the host, but I don't think a virtual server can run such server... If you are talking about the progressive download, sure it should be okay for 'light' traffic as long as that does not go over the site traffic limit set by your host... But if it goes more than that or that server happens to have other sites that are high in traffic volume, then you might want to move to other server...
it must not acutally be "streaming"... all it's doing is retrieving the data from the server, and beginning to play as soon as it has enough info. nothing else special involved... in the actionscript I did set the "is streaming" to "true".
you definitely shed some light on the matter, thank you!
