Markers -- what are they?

Does anyone know of a good tutorial that explains the markers I often see and their usage --- they look like flags and usually have names like "s1" and "s2" associated with them. I can see what they're being used for in a few flash files I have but I don't understand what they are or how they're being used.

the are called frame labels. You can do this with them

gotoAndPlay("myFrameLabel");
instead of
gotoAndPlay(5);

make sense?
