Is anyone else having trouble with Vista rendering the UI. I have 2 problems.

First, if you double click on a element in flash it really chugs when drawing the Marque scaling up. Normal users might even miss this because it's so fast. Vista it chugs for this effect.

Second, I have noticed minor drawing errors with Enumeration Dropdown boxes. For instance, Tween: dropdown; Label Type, etc... in the Properties Windows all cause minor render issues.

I was curious if anyone else know how to change Flash or Vista settings to fix these problems. (please don't tell me to use another OS, as it's not my choice.)

It looks like in order to get Flash to perform as fast as it does in XP or previous versions of Windows you need to switch the “Apperance” to Windows Vista Basic. Even if you have a good video card there are some FX that Flash uses that don't render well on Vista. I think Flash is using some software rendering API calls that perform poorly or conflict with the hardware rendering that Vista Aero supports. If you run the Aero theme you will have these issues. Vista Basic in general is much more snappy which I personally like, but you will lose some of fancier pretty features as well. For instance, CTRL-TAB goes back to the old XP style, so no real-time thumbnail support. Overall performance is way better.

I am using Flash 8, but I have to imagine that any older version would have the same issue. In addition, I am using "Lucida Console" as my Flash font as "Courier New" and even "Courier" don't seem to render well in Vista.

Ahhhhhhhhhh! The marque thing is driving me crazy.

*changes to vista basic look*

When is Flash 9 coming out then?
It will probably address those issues hey?

I'm encountering the marquee thing too. The problem only happens when you double click a movieclip on the stage (edit in place). And of course, when you return to the previous scene after having done that. But if you don't specifically need 'edit in place,' you can double click the same clip in the library instead. You can still edit the clip, and you won't get the problem, even with aero.
