Applying motion fade to a mask

I'm trying to apply a motion fade to a mask and I can't seem to get it to work. I have a movie clip that contains the motion fade and this movie clip is on the mask layer. When I publish it, the layer that is supposed to be masked displays right away instead of fading in. I'm doing everything right, I'm going to assume that a motion fade will not work with a mask. I have uploaded a file to show what I am trying to do. thanks in advance if anyone knows anything.

you should be fading the masked movie clip not the mask itself-fading a mask has no effect on visibility of what it is masking.
