help with selecting and saving images

hi,

i'm just starting out using actionscript and would like some guidance as to how i could select a portion of a image (e.g jpg file) using the mouse to make a rectangular selection and then to be able to save the selected portion as a new jpg file all using actionscript.

any guidance or suggestions are welcome. thank you.

If you asking what I think you are you can do this by importing the image to the stage or libarary, and the selecting it and doing (in the menu) Modify->Bitmap->Trace Bitmap, after this algorithm is run the file is converted into vector graphics and you can manipulate it, convert it to a symbol and a bunch of thother stuff.
