using flash and cookies

Can Flash be used in combination with cookies - eg. I'm creating a virtual environment in Flash. An example scenario is that I have 2 islands. The user plays a game which allows him to build a bridge between those 2 islands. Then he quits out. I want to make it so that next time he comes to the SWF, that bridge is still in place. Is this possible?
