moock is working on something, but thats a big ask! maybe try a language that has been around longer for that type of guide.

Design Patterns, Cookbook, and the rough cut of Moock's all combined are fairly complete.
I think a "complete" book will be rather large ;)

Hi
I just wanna say that there are only 3 books at the moment (but there are few good upcoming titles).

This is what you are lookin if you are new to as3. This book helped me mamy times (I knew as2, I knew what I wanted to do, but i didn't know how). It's the best choice at the monemt, but be aware that there are few 'bugs'. Propably they start to create this Book with earlier version of as3 specification, and there are few (i found mabye 4-5) incompabilities that they forget to correct (ex. package paths changed over time).

I am also familiar with "Programming Actionscript 3.0" pdf (280 pages). It's come from adobe, but I don't remember how i got it. In my opision it's something worth reading.

As I said At the beginning we have to wait for some books.
Augist 2007: Flash 8 Actionscript Bible was verry good book. I hoping that this book will be good to becouse publisher is the same, but Author changed so I have some concerns.

April 2007: Foundation Actionscript 3 Animation: Making Things Move! - check as2 animations examples on publisher page (http://www.friendsofed.com/book.html?isbn=1590595181)

??? 2007: Object-oriented Actionscript 3.0 - I hear it was good book for flash 8.

I recommend skipping Flex 2 with ActionScript 3. It's bad. The author gives a lot of false information. I'm a few chapters in and I want to stop reading out of disgust, but I have to finish it to write a review.

Actionscript 3 Design Patterns (http://safari.oreilly.com/9780596528461)
I'd add this one to the mix too. I like these chapters better than the other DP book. These are of a little more advanced, but honestly, with the OO nature of AS3 learning these design patterns will save hours and hours of grief. I try not to reinvent the wheel.

I actually work with both the old and new authors of the Actionscript 3 bible, and am willing to say that it will be a good resource to have, just as it was when Robert and Joey were writing it.
I've been reading through Colin's rough cuts of Essential AS 3, and that has been fantastic. In my opinion it is by far the richest source of information out on AS 3.
The Cookbook is good too... but it's like O'Reillys other cookbooks, not a book you pick up and read to learn theory.
The Design Patterns book is pretty good, but not something to pick up and learn Actionscript 3 from scratch. Good thing to have for the advancing actionscript developer though.
....
There is also the friends of ed book, which I haven't read, and another book: Intro to Flex 2, which is a pocket guide to Flex 2, and is authored by Roger Braunstein (also an author of the Actionscript 3 Bible).
As I have more opinions on the AS 3 books out, I'll share.

joey lott is a good writer (and a darn prolific one as well). i have read some of the chapters in the cookbook, but found it a bit irritating tbh, but obviously was not aimed at me.
i have also read some of the chapters of the flex book joey lott and chafic kazoun are working on, that seems to be a very good resource.

I've been glancing over bits and pieces of the AS3 Design patterns book...and man this book could stand to have a little more tech reviewing...
I've seen some of the signature Joey errors scattered in various places.

I hate learning from books (even though michaelxxoa and I are planning on writing one..LOL) so I took Joey Lotts video tutorials on lynda.com. They were very good and covereda lot of the basics.

I reviewed many books and in my opinion 2 series rules
Bible (I am waiting for Actionscript 3 Bible) and O'REILLY Head First (http://www.oreilly.com/store/series/headfirst.csp).
Head First Object-Oriented Analysis and Design
Head First Design Patterns
Although none of them isn't actually AS book - all examples are in java, but you can easly convert them to AS3 (you are learning 2 things at once - OO concepts and AS3).
Head first book concept is really unique. Book structure&design (A lot of pictures) make learning process mutch easier&faster. Check the free example chapters.
