Looking to build a multiuser real-time web app with avatars using Flash.
With possible extension to include SMS messaging at a future date.
Any suggestions on the server technology I could use eg , macromedia multi-user, Unity, Fortress etc. Chief concerns are learning curve, ease of use, integration.
Cheers

Well I'm sorry to say, but I belive the best option for you is to get Macromedia's Shockwave Director. It comes with a multiuser server. It also has many commands that allow you to connect to a server (and not just the multiuser server program which is included). I think the best way to start this off is to go to places like hotscripts.com (http://www.hotscripts.com) or resource index (http://www.resourceindex.com) and download some of the free cgi scripts for your SMS, Chat, board, etc and just do what would be done in html into your flash work. Now I have never tried it so don't ask me. All I know how to do is make cgi programs, I'm just learning flash, shockwave, and even html.
