Hello everyone,

Just wanted to know if anyone had the definitive answer to this question, or at the very least your opinions.

Many Tutorials and even books, at some point, say that the author, or something to that effect, assumes the reader has a "Basic Understanding or Knowledge of the Flash ver. the tutorial covers, so....

What is considered or meant by the statement a "Basic Knowledge or Understanding of" in this case Flash, or in my case Flash MX?

I, for one, am quite familiar with the tools in Flash MX, I can honestly say that I've used them all at some point or another, and I've experimented with at least 98% of all the items on and in the menu bar; I do not however, have a good grasp of ActionScript yet, their I would say I'm still an newbie after all these years.

So, I have a basic, or rather a good understanding / knowledge of the tools of Flash and it's interface, I'm just lacking in ActionScript; so I've narrowed it down and so my question now becomes how much ActionScript does one need to know to have a "Basic Understanding / Knowledge" of Flash?

Please, I would really like to hear your opinions on this, I mean break it down to the bone like "in order to have a basic... you need to know... or should know... I promise I wont hold anyone accountable for their answers; if anything we might learn something, or at the very least I will.

Peace

I bought "Traing from the Source" book. You need to know absolutely nothing to follow it. You might want to start there. It isn't a great book, but it is an easy place to begin.

Flash Gordon,

Thank You for your reply.

When I first started to use Flash MX I bought the Lynda Weinman's "Hands-On Training" book that helped get me started, it was clear and simple. I later purchased the book you mentioned, however it was the advanced version and I was stumped; did they write an Intermediate version?

I've never been very good at learning from a book, I can read alright but the lessons don't stick. I'm a visual person meaning I learn by seeing things done as they are explained, that's my dilemma.

However, I keep at it, the simple things do stick. I find the technical side of Flash (Actionscript), at least the more advance stuff, difficult to grasp so I find myself trying to accomplish with animation what I know can be done with Actionscript; it's really frustrating as all hell.

Anyway, I'm sure you have better things to do than to read my woes. Thanks again for the reply.

If you know of any GOOD, explained in basic English "Visual Tutorials" that cover ActionScript let me know, will you?

Peace
