Changing registration of a movie clip

pretty noob question

how to do change the registration?
this is what the help panel says " To change the registration point, drag the symbol on the Stage. A cross hair indicates the location of the registration point. "

but when I try dragging the cross hair the whole mc is dragged ;/

click on your symbol until you go into it

and you will see the cross hair ... you are moving the symbol not the cross hair .... select the symbol and move the symbol until you see what you want in relation to the cross hair ... or you can change the x y co-ordinates in the property panel

however a useful trick is to select the symbol, go to alignment panel make sure toStage is selected and align ... top left or center are the most common choices but it depends on what you are doing
