...where are we now?
I know that there is supposed to be a beta up at this point, i think.
Can we go ahead and spread it around to some folks?
Also can we at least give out the IP and port etc. so that we can use the MUSH/MUDs and what not to have a peak around?
As I have slightly more time on my hands these days if any final dillying around with the client needs to be done, just shoot it my way...thankee.

The actionscript.org core is up and running smoothly. You can set your GMUD or MUSHclient to connect to:
www.actionscript.org:1138

and how I can set those little puppies
(is it a real link??if yes, so it's broken)

Go in the other posts here and download the GMUD client. Click on the little window button and select the "world" from the left-hand listbox. Edit the address and port to reflect the link above and click OK or save... can't remember. Then just click the connect button and yer in. Look in the past posts here in this forum section for details on how to connect/create/interact... it's all there.

All the connectivity stuff was copied over to the ASengine, so connecting the client there shouldn't be a problem. I'm not sure if I'm going to have much time this week for coding. I'm WAY behind on processing here at work and people are starting to become suspicious... good thing I've got my ball-peen neuralizer handy.
*WHACK*
Boss, you think I'm doing a fine job and there's no question as to my value to the company...
Oh yeah....
*WHACK,WHACK, WHACK*
Boss, you think I deserve a raise.

Word. Don't over abuse that hammer. Think "long term".
Heh. Good luck with those weasels.
20 Ton Squirrel
07-16-2002, 07:53 PM
Long... term?
*nudges comatose boss with boot*
Ummm... heh... well, that's about as long-term as it gets! HA!
When I DO get back on track, which I'm starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel:
What format is the whiteboard sending/receiving? I recall you having size, color, alpha, x, and y for each "pixel" drawn. Anything else?
red penguin
07-16-2002, 08:30 PM
Hmmmm...
I need to dig it out and check. I'll report back in a bit (asCHAT?). I'm hot on the trail of something. MX scrollbars.
By "long term" I was referring to the hammer itself. I fear that over using it will result in it's unfortunate confiscation!
Can't have that now, can we!
red penguin

Right...as it is now, I've got it to the point where it stores points in three arrays... 1. Points for "lineTo()" 2. Starting points to "moveTo()" and, 3. An index count to know when to start a new line. I haven't coded in the "colors" yet, but that should be no problem at all. Just another array...easy stuff...
So, how can this data be sent? Don't know how the engine handles it, but in the send function, it will concatenate the three and send them all at once. Perhaps delimiting it by something so we know how to read it back for the playback.
The first two arrays are 2D... (already taken that into account for the playback, I believe...if not...no worries...). It's the sending and how to format them. It can be formatted with a second delimiter and I have a prototype to delimit it but should the formatting be done here (before send) or there (after)?
All in all, I'd have to say about a half a day's work to get it going. Just give me your idea on how I should format it for the send..one array at a time? All in one she-bang?
Hope you've got that hammer handy..I think I hear the boss coming...

I'm thinking it should all be sent at once. With all the extra data like color, size, and alpha that might get a bit hefty. If it does we can cut down on size somehow... to bad we can't incorporate compression somehow, like on MUDs. Anyway, that'll be a worry after we get this going...
The array should look like this going from the sender to the core:
wboard Red Penguin 1,1,100,388,293;1,1,100,388,298;....
<CMD USER SIZE,COLOR,APLHA,X,Y;SIZE,COLOR,ALPHA...>
Make sense?
red penguin
07-17-2002, 06:46 PM
Yeah...it makes sense...
The way it's formatted: <CMD USER SIZE,COLOR,APLHA,X,Y;>
-indicates to me that it'll be a "real-time" draw and not a "save-the-data-then-send" draw. That how you see it?
If so, I need to rehash the process. Don't think it'll be a problem at all. Need to also invoke the function to initiate drawing as the data comes in client side and I haven't worked in the TARGET yet either...

The problem might not necessarilly be from the bandwidth of pushing these arrays back and forth as much as getting Flash to chop up these massive strings into arrays. I did a project like this before that did basically the same thing, I had to send the data back to flash in chunks.
red penguin
07-17-2002, 07:22 PM
Yeah...I see that...In "defense" of that argument I don't think that the arrays will be "too" large that it'll cause a problem. For example, in my drawing thingy, the "moveTo" points are stored in this format...str_lines=371,217|371,216|369,216|367,215 |366,215|364,214|362,212|359,211|357,210|354,209
...which is then handled via a prototype which uses two delimiters to split it up into an array. So...should we continue using this method or go to a real-time situation where it'll send a constant flow of data in chunks (like you said...<CMD USER SIZE,COLOR,APLHA,X,Y;>) and then just take that data and draw?
One way or the other. The "real-time" might be better in as far as handling the data...Whatchoo thinkin'?

However, why doesn't red just send you the client, that'll connect?

Billy, barring all else if you can find some form of Telnet application, that will work. The only problem with standard telneters is that the interface isn't exactly friendly to the environment. Just try and you'll see...
I'm sure there are clients out there, though. I'd suggest Vile's MacMUSH or the client.

sorry xxlm, You'd have thought that being a penguin and all that Red would be interesting and have exciting tales to tell, but sadly not. He's the most boring bird I've ever met, he's only interested in preening his feathers and catching his next meal really. Eating fish is his only hobby and he's not a good conversationalist at all.
sorry - couldn't resist!
