Hi,

I have a strange problem with displaying a video using Flash: see http://www.vonbauernfürbauern.ch/swf/demo_intro_d.html

This URL should show a video and the skin ClearOverPlaySeekMute.swf. I am using FLVPlayback for loading. The respective video vbfb_intro_clip_03.flv shares its directoy with the .html, das .swf und ClearOverPlaySeekMute.swf (but is not in the root of the site).

All runs smoothly under
- Firefox 1/Mac
- Safari 2/Mac
- Konqueror/Linux
- IEx auf PC (as far as I have seen)

Yet on Firefox 2 / Mac and Firefox 2 / Linux it does not. At least not online. Locally, using the built-in server of OSX or if I open demo_intro_d.html directly in the browser, everything wokrs fine.

Has anybody encountered this problem?

Thanks for your help

Have not encountered this but you might want to reinstall the latest flash plugin for all these browsers. Hopefull Adobe fixed these problems.. It's the plugin's fault.

Hi peptobismol,

sorry, no, I have the newest Flash Player Plugin. Also, this does not explain why it is working with Firefox 1 / Mac, but not on Firefox 2.

Greetings,

Plugins work with a particular browser. Firefox 2 must have something different about it that the flash plugin wouldn't work

Hi peptobismol,

my latest guess is that it might have to do with how the Flash Player and/or Firefox 2 are handling URLs with an "Umlaut" (in this case "ü").

If it were only for the Plugin, the respective movie should not run locally...

Cheers

Not sure what's the umlaut has to do with it but if it's in you url, try changing it and put it on a friends server.

It sound's like a permission problem. It will run locally but not on the web.. If the url is not the problem, you will have to wait for Adobe to fix the problem. You might want to shoot them an email, telling them the problem.

Hi peptobismol,

the problem has been solved. The reason was indeed the Umlaut in the URL.

www.vonbauernfürbauern.ch translates to http://www.xn--vonbauernfrbauern-c3b.ch/ on the server. It seems that the combination Firefox2/Flash Player/Mac or Linux is having a problem with this

If I change the URL to www.vonbauernfuerbauern.ch, everything works fine.

Thanks for responding anyway
