V1 and V2 component architecture

hi there,
what is the difference between V1 and V2 component architecture?

is it just the fact that:
V1: sub-class extends MovieClip
V2: sub-class extends UIObject or UIComponent?

One more question:
Is V1 components able to support skinning?
