Printer Enumeration/Setup

Hi all,

Probably a long shot but I need to be able to get a list of the clients printers and be able to set the paper size etc.

Can this be done?

We're trying to stay away from ActiveX or Software based solutions to print labels from a clients computer.

The Flash player security sandbox prohibits you from being able to access information like this. The Apollo sandbox removes some of these restrictions, but requires the Apollo runtime on the user's machine.

Is Apollo something major or can this be simply downloaded? It's either that or Java and I prefere the "flex"ibility (see what i done there lol) and look of Flex.

The problem is that Apollo is only in Alpha release at the moment: http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/apollo/

The install for the runtime is nothing major for the end-user, but if you need your solution today, you're going to need to look at alternatives.

By the way, Apollo is meant for building desktop applications. If you want to embed something in a webpage, it won't be useful to you.

As flexy said, Flash Player doesn't expose much information about the available printers. The flash.printing package (http://livedocs.adobe.com/flex/201/langref/flash/printing/package-detail.html) should cover everything you can do.
