Hi,

I am not sure about embedded fonts. Can anyone explain in lay-man terms.

Is it like: since some fonts (say, Dodger font) are not installed in all the computers, the swf file won't take the Dodger font always and hence it may take some other default font from the user computer (assuming Dodger font is not there!!).

To avoid this problem, should we change the text option from static text to Dynamic text and then click the Embed fonts at the bottom of the Text options menu (am referring to Falsh 5- not sure of Flash MX). There are other buttons also.. like.. "AZ", "az", "12" etc.. what are those for?

I tried to use this embed font on a button (with changing the text options to dynamic text), but when I view the movie, the cursor dosen't show the 'clickable hand' when moved over the text (but shows when it is moved over the button).

Thnx,

Bala

ehm .. not sure here ... any text specialists ? I though u used embeded fonts for when viewers don't have them, they still get it. This increases filesize, but ensures that the viewer gets what the designer intended ...

The hand doesn't show up cuz dynamic text isn't the same as a link or sumthing like that. Dynamic text is text that can be changed on the fly. Unlike static text, that won't change while being viewed ...

the 3 thingies ? Why don't u change those values, and see what happens ? I believe 12 is the default size of the font though ...

Ok, here it is:

In your library, create a "New Font". Give it a name, and select the font that will represent your given name...
Then, select the text field (statid or dynamic, same thing) and choose your given font name as the font for the text field. This way all viewers will see it the way you see it locally, wether they have it installed on their machine or not.

About the other question, that's when you decide that for some text fields it is not important what font it will be displayed in. Let's say you have a text field (static or dynamic) where you don't care what font it is in, then you simply click on the checkbox for "Device Fonts", and select what device fonts should be included:
AZ means it will use device fonts for all capital letters.
az for all small letters.
And so on, for numbers, or even symbols chosen by you. If you will not use the @ or the # symbols, then there is no reason to put your Flash movie to incude them into the "Device Font"...

The main purpose of this is to save resources and make the traffic of the Flash movie faster towards the user's computer...

Hope it helps :)

Hi...

I think what Abelius is trying to tell you with that is something like this...

Open up the library... (Window-Library)
Click on the Options menu which is located right below the Close button[X]
Select New Font...

From there follow Abelius's instruction...

Good luck!!! :)

Hi Texbala,

Regarding the hand cursor not showing up, it is probably because your font is selectable. If you check the button to make the text selectable (the first one right of the "single line" drop down), you wont see the hand cursor anymore when you roll over the text area. Make sure you don't check this box and it will work fine.

Selectable text is a good idea to allow people to copy paste your texts, but when it come to buttons, stay away from it.

This is for Flash MX, I am not sure about Flash 5 ...

Lolotte... as u said, the problem is with 'selectable text'. It is the same in Falsh 5. (I don't have MX)
