Glow effect question

I'm trying to do a glow effect but I don't want the object that is glowing to be visible. I tried using the "Knockout" option, but that leaves a blank space where the object was. I also tried making the object's alpha to zero, but then the glow was invisible too. Is there anyway to just make the glow visible without a visible object?

Maybe try gradiant glow, and choose knock out and full.

ok, I just made a really thick outline and then set it up to "glow inside" and it worked like a charm =)
