View Full Version : FLVPlayback latency with IE6 but not Firefox

For some reason, the FLVPlayback component takes a VERY long time to establish a connection to play a progressively loaded FLV when used in IE 6 with the Flash Active X (player 9) object. Under Firefox, there's no issue.
Has anybody run into this? If you still have IE6 running with the Flash "plugin" (Active X component), have a look at:
http://205.200.127.103/video.html to see what I'm talking about.
At first I thought it was server latency but that myth was dispelled when I used Firefox without any latency (???).
If anyone has any insight into this, it would be greatly appreciated as this is driving me batty.

I know that when you put it into HTML format on your website, it is considered an object in internet explorer, and in firefox its an Embedded piece. Therefore, when I made some changes to the embedded section in my HTML, it only changed the Firefox part of it. That's all I know. So, if you're putting this on your website, I have 3 theories.
#1. You messed up on something in the object format.
#2. You might've got the right movie in the embedded part, but have a different move in the object part, or visa versa.
#3... oh... damnit.... I meant 2 theories!
Sorry... Im not very good at math :p
Hope that helps

I see what you're saying but that's not the case. If they were different files (there's only one on the server with the same name) then the main swf wouldn't load to begin with.
This is purely something related to the Flash player Active X object for IE and the FLVPlayback component. The connection is not established nor is the requested FLV immediately piped into the netStream (using the old component jargon here, old habits....).
This all worked fine under Flash MX 2004 Professional and the old media components but this new FLVPlayback and Flash 8 are showing ridiculously slow load times due to a delayed connection being established under IE6 (and the Flash Active X object). Again, under Firefox, everything works exactly as intended.
Any ideas?

Hi There,
I am having the same problem ... I see now a year later than when you had the same issue.
When using the FLV PlayBack component in Flash CS3 and creating a .swf file which has the flv video embedded, the swf plays fine in Firefox 2 but has a 4 seconds delay before it starts when playing in IE 6. During the latency it's just a white screen and it's not loading any swf or html during that time. After that it buffers and loads fine. It seems that it is due to how IE handles ActiveX.
Did you ever find a fix to your problem?
Please help! Thanks.
