Hello,
On my computer, when I view swf files on the web it is with flash player 9. When I view projector files on my desktop it is with Flash Player... 7? How does that work? Why doesn't the desktop version update with the web version? Is there a special place I go to download projector players specifically?

The browsers' Flash plug-ins are different from the standalone players, which usually are installed with each new version of the Flash application... You might want to download the trial version of Flash CS3, to see if it does install the standalone Player 9?

That is right. You probably have Flash 7 on your local machine and hence it runs the Flash 7 standalone player when you double-clicked on your projector file.
If you want your projector file to run on Flash 9, you have to get the standalone Flash Player 9 and install that on your local machine (this is separate from your browser's Flash player).
To get the stand-alone Flash Player 9 are totally free. You don't need to get the full-blown Flash CS3. Just download the stand-alone Flash player 9 from http://www.adobe.com/support/flashplayer/downloads.html
For windows, it is known as the "Flash Player 9 projector content debugger".
Here a link to more info about using the stand-alone Flash player (http://www.learnwebdesignonline.com/flash-tutorials/running-flash-standalone.htm).
Then run the Flash Player 9 and do "File -> Open" of your projector file.
