I have been confused (and still am) about being able to edit symbol instances without affecting the master symbol. This ability is limited to changes like alpha, size, color, rotation, etc., yes?

I need to create a number of buttons that differ only in that each will have a different number on them. 1, 2, 3, 4, etc. I am coming to the conclusion that I will need to duplicate the master button symbol, and then edit each duplicate to add its number. Yes?

I anyone can confirm this or give me a hint for a work-around, I would appreciate it!

you might already be doing this, but you could use a graphic for the background of the button, which could be reused for each button so they all look the same, and then add the number to each button. you could also use the different instances of the master button, but just put another layer on top which has the number in it, probably not the cleanest way, but just throwing out suggestions. i'd be interested to know if anyone else has more to say on this too.
