upload files to the server

Is it possible for me to upload files say .jpg to the server in a location that i specify in my code ..... I have referred to the filereference class and the upload method does not help me to do it ... can anyone give me a small example where i can display a dialog box using the browse method and when a file is selected it must go to the server
