View Full Version : How To Bump Your Thread

Hi everyone.

It's not that big of a problem here, but some people who want their threads seen will make a new post that says something like "please reply" or "bump". People don't like this, so I have a new way to take your thread to the top without any extra posts.

First, edit your latest post and copy all the text in that post.
Then, exit out of the edit mode and delete your latest post (make sure you have that post copied)
Next, create a new post in your thread and paste the content of that post into the new post.
Add this post, and your thread should be moved to the most recent one, without any extra posting.

Hope this will clear a little space in threads and also make sure that people with problems and questions get their answers more quickly.

l8,
FishStik

FYI, I do what I can to delete the posts with those meaningless bumps to keep this place clean...

Yes, I know, and we all appreciate it...but if the meaningless bumps don't appear in the first place, it'd be less work for you. =]

That's all assuming there were no replies whatsoever... As soon as there's one, you'd be deleting that reply also... So you're stuck back to bumping it up...

Well there would be no point in bumping your thread if someone had already replied.

Unless the answer really wasn't one... Or it didn't help you... Or you want more... And then since people see it's been answered, it just drops down & probably won't come back unless you bump it, with a ***BUMP*** or an Anyone else?, which is basically the same right?

Yeah I guess...but you could just say in your bump post something like: "that's all fine and dandy, but I'd appreciate more because [insert explanation here]"

Yeah I guess...but you could just say in your bump post something like: "that's all fine and dandy, but I'd appreciate more because [insert explanation here]"

or you could just say "Bump / Anyone else? Because I don't need to explain myself to you"

The thing is FishStik; it isn't that the length of bumped threads bothers people, it is that a topic that has already had a chance is now taking up valuable real estate at the top on the page again. It almost comes across as being selfish or self centered because you're thinking your post is more important then everyone elses...

The only thing your method is doing is attempting to fool the moderators or users into thinking a bumped post is a new post. Which, doesn't make a ton of sense IMO. If the current people looking at the site won't/can't help you, bumping the thread won't really help..

If on the other hand you've given the thread a signifigant amount of time to get answered (like, it is well beyond the first page) and it hasn't been answered, I don't think anyone would be upset to see it bumped once in the normal fashion...so why try to trick people into thinking it wasn't bumped? For that matter, you could just make a duplicate post which would do the same thing...and be just as annoying...

I think for the most part it is the silly questions that bug people.

If you keep bumping a post about LoadVars where there are 1,000+ other threads on it if you'd just use the search.. thats kind of annoying.

Most of the people on here have seen tons and tons of the same posts, so when you see the same post you've seen a million times being bumped and bumped.. that is where the annoying comes in.

Just use the search feature.

The best solution is give your thread a descriptive title....those general "I'm stuck please help" or "NO idea why this doesnt work" usually get skipped. Go with something like (using the loadvars example), "LoadVars: State Problem"

Yeah... It's pain in the @$$ to read the thread and edit the topic as well... Well... The most of the problem is that I still don't understand what to title even after reading the post... :(

What gets me are the threads that have a first post that goes on for five pages without ever actually describing the specific question they want answered, and then just end with "can ne1 hlp me plz?". To those people: please don't post threads when you're on drugs, it's disrespectful to those of us that try to remain sober while working.

You mean those people who reply to a 3 year old thread with 'I have same problem...' comment??? :D

I hope my topics always get to the point and have descriptive topics. Although i do have to bump sometimes. But i dont think it is my fault. In big forums such as this , people just post a lot.

I think you are just anxious, which is totally normal and understandable, if the post goes to the secondn page... We do our best to go through the threads that are posted no matter what page it is posted... Of course, there are posts that are unanswered for whatever reason it might be... Just keep in mind that we do this to help community and we don't make dime out of it... ;)
