Hey Guys
When first looking at a portfolio/company site either for a studio, agency or individual. What is the first thing you look for? What we are about? Portfolio? Contacts? What's the first thing you look for and why? What’s important to you?
The design of the website itself I suppose, then probably the portfolio.

alkil47,
I agree with sfa and farafiro about the design and layout of the site. But reading your question again, i am thinking you want to know what actual 'section' or heading is most important, or am i way off the mark ?
In which case i would go straight for the portfolio, because anyone can write anything about themselves or promote their company by whatever means possible - but a protfolio represents the work, it cannot lie, it can be visited and checked and gives you a good idea of how competent/good the web developer/designer actually is.

I think you all right , portfolio is the first place i also go for , I am posting around different boards to see how different types of people navigate ,and use websites. Anyone out there think differently , what other stong points make you stay on a site and maybe , maybe come back?

hmmm, If it's a company. I really like to see well written case studies along with a portfolio that links to actual sites. If you're trying to figure out which way to go that would be my suggestion. I also look for contact info to be clear.
these two things build credibility. I hate having to guess if something is for real or not. I was recently asked to make a reccomondation on a hosting company. after looking at their site for awhile I surmised that they were total fly by night. They didn't have a 1-800 number, they gave anonymous testimonies and I never could tell where they were from.
