I'm trying to make an overlay target only a specific displayObject. I understand it natively has to do with depths, however controlling depths to direct the targeting of the blendMode isn't an option. Is there a way to control what displayobject the blend mode effects?
I would be interested in this too. If it works like Photoshop, then the answer's more than likely no.

That is what am led to believe as well. PS, AI, etc all tend to do it that way. However, my problem is when animating a object that has an overlay, the overlay will shift around and it can be very noticable.
Its a pain in the ass...but try playing with the object depth.

that's not an option....In the attached file, notice the overlay shifts around while getting tweened which produces a red border around the object.
