I haven't been on this board in ages, till just now and I got spammed by this @$$

There have been three reports of this now. One more and I'll ban him permanently. It's not on. But I'm happy to say that in two years, this is the first time it's hapenned.

I also went to the site and wrote a really nasty letter to the contact.

I suggest everyone do the same and use lots of curse words and slurs about his/her momma.

Yeah I've had a few other reports since. I think this constitutes a serious abuse of the Forums, so for the time being this member will become (only) the second person to have ever been banned from these forums.

Further to this thread, the function allowing users to send email via these forums has now been disabled and will remain that way until future notice. Such a shame it's even necessary.

I just got one too, as if emptying my hotmail of trash every morning was'nt enough, now i'm getting spam in my "secret" account!!

I also recieved a email from this flashhero.. I have been on actionscript.org only a couple of times and the last time I was here was like three months ago.

Thank you for bringing flashhero to all of our attention and dealing with this spammer in a professional and quick manner.

I fugured I would find a thread on this one, yep, got it too, but I am used to it, that inbox is full of spam anyway....nonetheless, dont get me wrong, he's still a c***.

LOL yeah I used to do that all the time but then I would often get a reply from the person saying something like "sorry for the inconvenience but my mailbox was attacked by a virus" and I would end up feeling really bad :(

a friend of mine just wrote some script that sends a couple of thousand emails to the spammers inbox - each with a random address etc - now that would be some sweet satisfaction.

I presume it was the turning off of the email feature that has stopped everyone from getting the "reply to thread" emails? Damn spammers suck....

Damn. I didnt recognize that it was spam. I ACTUALLY thought that some guy on the forum was just giving me a shout out about some site. I just didnt get a chance to check it out. LOL.

Damn im naive. Oh well. So this is a banning situation eh? I wasn't aware of the severity of it. i mean, if it was multiple emails and my box was flooded, ON WITH THE BANNING. But isn't this a little rough? I mean i dont know if this guy normally post around here. Was he a decent contributor?

And does the feature now have to be disabled completely? One dude shouldnt change board policy.

nah, he or she has only made 1 post here and that was the same spam as the email you received

I do agree though, I've never really had a problem with the email thing before and it's not as though flashhero managed to hack in and email everyone at once did he/she? Therefore he or she was clicking on a persons name, clicking the email button, pasting the delicious spam and then clicking send - not exactly a time efficient way of spamming....

The problem is a vBulletin issue and I've written to them asking them to resolve it. Since emails are sent on the basis of user ID, it allows you to create some sort of automated system which simply changes the userID in the URL line by 1 each time and bulk mails thousands of people. This wasn't done on this occasion I should point out, but when I became aware of it, it scared me.
I've asked vBulletin to look into using user-names or some other identifier which is non-linear.
