maximum filename length on pc?

is there a maximum filename length on cds made for pc - i'm on mac but i'm burning a hybrid cd and i don't want my assets to become unreadable by the projector because their filenames are not what the xml says they are

Depends on the CD format. ISO requires 8.3 (I think) but a Joliet file system can support names of up to 63 characters. When in doubt, and for maximum compatibility, stick to 8.3 file names.
