Hi all,
What level of competency in Flex should one have to be a junior level developer?
Specifically for students that are about to graduate and looking to become a flash developer?
Just curious to see what everyone's thoughts are.
Thanks!

Specific knowledge isn't that important. Whatever knowledge you lack on flex specifics you'll pick up quickly, and any decent employer will know this. What you need is general programming knowledge. Algorithms, data structures, OO, fundamentals of logic, complexity theory, and so on...

Yep, the language isn't that important. Syntax can be learned quickly. I'd also add that along with what jsebrech mentioned, you'll want to know Design Patterns VERY well. If you go into an interview talking in terms of Design Patterns and can answer questions with good OO principles and practices, then you'll impress potential employers.

Sure, design patterns are important, but for a junior developer I would put them pretty low on the list.
Knowing a lot about design patterns matters mostly to the analysts who actually design the architecture of the application. Junior developers should keep their head down and focus on the code. If their seniors don't give them enough guidance that they need to be up to speed on design patterns, they're mismanaged.
IMHO, ofcourse.
Then again, there are a lot of places that mismanage their developers, and a lot of recruiters who love buzzwords like design patterns. So, I suppose when it comes to hireability, it's not a bad topic to learn.
