Hi

We have to recommend video compression settings for 16:9 video. Client prepared video sample. Technically it's DV video. Video resolution is 768 x 576. So it should be 4:3 ratio, but it's is played as 16:9 in media player classic. As I have read 768 x 576 is 16:9 in TV world because pixels are rectangular and video file contains some information in header telling player that it's actually 16:9.
Those informations are ignored by Flash Video Encoder and video becomes 4:3 after compression. Any idea how to compress such video?

Hi panel,

In reading this from Adobe support:
http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=d14ddafd
Flash 8 Video Encoder cannot compress video at 16:9 aspect ratio.

Maybe one option is to keep the video as non FLV (say H.264 MPEG4, if you can
target Flash Player 9,0,115,0 or above)

Honestly it's kind of weird though if the player can play 16:9 video, why it cant encode it ?

An advanced solution is to create a 'wide screen' virtual camera device which plays your movie into FME at widescreen resolution.
By using the 'virtual device' FME is forced to write widescreen video. The clients Data is streamed through the device into FME.

I can develope this device and the controller MFC application if running windows is an option.

As to why the video encoder doesnt encode it, is probably to do with diferrence in Video Info Objects in the stream. There are two generations.

Also in case the client does video, most programs Final Cut Pro, Premeire, After Effects, Quicktime Pro, etc... can export FLV. You could have them re-output it if possible as FLV.

Unfortunately it's is out goal to advice client about birthrate, fts, resolution etc, ant tell them witch settings will work best, so I guess I will have to play with After Effects for a while

I understand alot of times its not advisable to go back to the client with requests etc.., but I thought based on you saying that they "prepared a video" that maybe they work with video. Was just a suggestion, based on that, hope you get things sorted out.

Birthrate (is your cleint a hospital) :p
